Find time for yourself

We all react differently to a cancer diagnosis and to treatment. GCUK is working to develop additional support mechanisms for GIST patients as this is an area identified by our community for additional work.

As this becomes available you will be able to find additional information through this page.

Currently we recommend four routes to additional support with health, mental health and well-being issues:

  1. Interaction with fellow patients can be really helpful so join our forum or come to a patient/carer meeting.
  2. Our booklets provide guidance on nutrition and health-related issues.
  3. See the Useful links section of this site for additional providers of support and guidance.
  4. GIST is a sarcoma and Sarcoma UK have guidance, support and links to additional resources on the Get Support section of their website.

There is also a PowerPoint presentation by McMillan Clinical Psychologist, Dr Rachael McCarthy, of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust which you may find relevant.  We would like to thank Dr McCarthy and the Trust for permission to use this. When accessing the slides please also access ‘View’ and ‘Notes’ as there are useful texts attaches to a number of the slides”
